EXPLORE Central Italy
------------ June 26 | Rome ------------
Rome, Italy’s capital, is a sprawling, cosmopolitan city with nearly 3,000 years of globally influential art, architecture and culture on display.
Rome is an enchanting city where you'll discover a romantic blend of culture and history spiced up with a vibrant street and nightlife.
We will enjoy a guided tour in the afternoon with dinner at the Trattoria in the evening.
------------ June 27 | Perugia ------------
Perugia has become famous for chocolate, mostly because of a single firm, Perugina, whose Baci ("kisses" in English) are widely exported. Perugian chocolate is very popular in Italy.
After breakfast we'll go on a guided tour of the city of Perugia followed by lunch at Osteria.
In the afternoon we'll enjoy a chocolate making lesson (and tasting of course!) at the Perugina factory. After which we will take a guided tour of the Historical Museum of Perugia.
A day trip to Assisi: we will get off the beaten path and visit Assisi, is a hill town in central Italy’s Umbria region. It was the birthplace of St. Francis (1181–1226), one of Italy’s patron saints. Assisi lies amid Umbria's rolling hills. During our stay here, we will embark on a guided tour of Assisi and of the church of Santa Maria degli Angeli.
------------ June 30 | San Gimignano------------
Known as the Town of Fine Towers, San Gimignano is famous for its medieval architecture, unique in the preservation of about a dozen of its tower houses, which, with its hilltop setting and encircling walls, form "an unforgettable skyline".
After dining on a traditional medieval style lunch, we will take a guided tour of the town.
A day trip to Siena: Siena is romantic, small, there are plenty of beautiful Medieval buildings. The city is located between the Chianti region and Montalcino, so it’s heaven for wine enthusiasts.
Once we arrive in Siena we will take a guided tour. In the evening return to the hotel in San Gimignano, and have dinner at the restaurant in Certaldo and musical evening with concert of Italian arias performed by singers and classical harp (Vivaldi, Frescobaldi, Bach, and Neapolitan repertoire).
------------ July 2 | Lucca ------------
Lucca is known throughout Italy for its fantastic medieval city walls that still encircle most of the historic old town. Originally this city was founded by the Etruscans and was then a Roman colony around 180 BC. During the Roman era, Lucca served as an important meeting place for Julius Caesar and Crassus.
We will do a half day guided tour of Lucca with the afternoon free for shopping.
On our way to Lucca there will be a stop to Volterra: we will enjoy lunch in Volterra, the city of Alabaster. Volterra is a charming town situated in the province of Pisa, not far from Florence, Siena and the coast as well. It is well known for its Etruscan origins and for the many remains belonging to this era.
------------ July 4 | Val D'Orcia ------------
Val D'Orcia is so pure, characteristic and imprinted on our minds as the quintessential image of Tuscany. Hills and ravines comprise the countryside, but it’s the cypress trees that steal the scene, surrounding isolated hilltop hamlet and marking roads in tidy rows.
After lunching and indulging in an afternoon spa day at the hotel, have dinner and explore this charming village on your own.
